She awoke with a start. Eyes shot open and heart beating fast. It was dark and barely 4am. One of her cows was crying out in pain. This specific cow had been pregnant for 8 and a half months. The baby had decided to come early.
Yekaterina rushed out of bed and slipped into the nearest clothes she could find; an old worn out pair of jeans with holes in the knees and a multi-stained T-shirt. She put her hair in a headband, disregarding how it looked. She ran to the cattle shelter and unlock the gate to find the one screaming. Once located, she fought the sea of other cattle to herd the cow in labor to a separate aera where the calf could be born. Luckily, the cow had already done part of the job.
Yekaterina quickly snapped on some gloves before trying to restrain the mother for delivery. She had been in labor for a few hours, and it was time to intervene. She lubricated her whole arms and reached inside to deliver.
… … … …
Several upon several minutes later, the calf was birthed. Yekaterina smiled as she carried it to a separate pen to lay down in clean hay. After making sure the calf could breathe, she stripped off her gloves and led the mother into the pen to be with it’s newborn baby.
“Happy Mother’s Day.” she said, giving the mother a pat on the head before closing them off in the pen, heading back to the house and starting cleaning up.
